Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 September 2026
This policy explains how Cheeky Charlie's Caribbean Takeaway ("Cheeky Charlie's", "we", "us") collects, uses and protects your personal information when you visit this website, get in touch with us, or order food from us. We follow the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).
1. Who we are
Cheeky Charlie's is a Caribbean takeaway serving the Bournemouth and Christchurch area. Orders can be collected from Russell Court Hotel, Bournemouth. We are the "controller" of the personal information described in this policy, which means we decide how and why it's used.

2. The information we collect
When you contact us
If you call, WhatsApp, email or message us on Facebook, we receive your name, your phone number, email address or social media profile (depending on how you contact us) and whatever you choose to tell us in your message.
When you place an order
To take and deliver your order we collect your name, phone number, your delivery address (for delivery orders), what you've ordered, how you're paying and any notes you give us, such as delivery instructions.
Allergies and dietary requirements
If you tell us about an allergy, intolerance or other dietary need, this can be information about your health, which the law treats as "special category" data. We only use it to prepare your food safely (see section 3).
When you visit our website
Our website has no contact forms, accounts or online checkout, and we don't use analytics or advertising tools. Like all websites, it is delivered by a hosting provider whose servers automatically process technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, so that the site can be shown to you and kept secure. Our website fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers and shares your IP address with Google.
3. How we use your information and our lawful basis
Data protection law says we must have a lawful basis for each way we use your personal information. Here's what we do and why:
| What we use it for | Information used | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Replying to your messages and questions | Contact details and your message | Our legitimate interests in responding to people who contact us, or taking steps you've asked for before placing an order (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f) and 6(1)(b)) |
| Taking, preparing, delivering or handing over your order | Name, phone number, delivery address, order and payment details | Performing our contract with you (Article 6(1)(b)) |
| Preparing food safely around allergies and dietary needs | Allergy and dietary information you give us | Your explicit consent (Article 9(2)(a)), together with performing our contract with you (Article 6(1)(b)) |
| Keeping accounts and tax records | Order and payment records | Complying with our legal obligations, for example to HM Revenue & Customs (Article 6(1)(c)) |
| Dealing with complaints and protecting our legal rights | Order records and messages | Our legitimate interests in running our business properly and defending claims (Article 6(1)(f)) |
| Running and securing our website | Technical data such as IP address and browser type | Our legitimate interests in providing a working, secure website (Article 6(1)(f)) |
You can withdraw your consent to us using allergy information at any time by telling us, but we may then be unable to prepare food that is safe for you. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for automated decision-making or profiling.
4. Who we share your information with
We only share your information where we need to, with:
- Netlify, which hosts our website.
- Google, which provides our email service (Gmail) and the fonts used on our website (Google Fonts).
- Meta (WhatsApp and Facebook), if you choose to contact us or order through those services. Meta handles your messages under its own terms and privacy policy.
- Card payment providers, if you pay by card. Your card details are processed by the payment provider; we don't receive your full card number.
- Our accountant and professional advisers, where needed to run our business and meet our legal obligations.
- Authorities such as HM Revenue & Customs, the local council's environmental health team or the police, where the law requires it.
5. International transfers
Some of these providers, including Netlify, Google and Meta, are based in the United States or process information outside the UK. Where your information is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (where the provider is certified) or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.
6. How long we keep your information
- Messages and enquiries that don't lead to an order: up to 12 months.
- Contact and delivery details linked to an order: up to 12 months, unless we need them for longer to deal with a complaint or claim.
- Allergy and dietary information: only as long as we need it to prepare your order.
- Financial records (such as sales records needed for our accounts): 6 years, as required for tax purposes.
- Website technical data: kept by our hosting provider for a limited period in line with its own retention policies.
7. Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you (access);
- ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete (rectification);
- ask us to delete your information (erasure);
- ask us to limit how we use your information (restriction);
- ask us to transfer information you gave us to you or another organisation (portability);
- object to us using your information on the basis of our legitimate interests, and object at any time to any direct marketing;
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
Some of these rights only apply in certain circumstances. To use any of them, email or message us using the details in section 1. It's free, and we'll respond within one month. We may need to ask you to confirm your identity first.
8. Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please contact us first and we'll do our best to put things right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator:
Website: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint
Helpline: 0303 123 1113
Post: Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF
9. Do you have to give us your information?
You don't have to give us any personal information to browse our website. If you want to order, we need your name, a phone number and, for delivery, your address, otherwise we can't take or deliver your order. Telling us about allergies is up to you, but we can't take them into account unless you do.
10. Children
Our website isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you're ordering for a child and tell us about their allergy or dietary needs, we'll only use that information to prepare their food safely.
11. Keeping your information secure
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including only keeping what we need and our website being served over a secure (HTTPS) connection. No method of sending information over the internet is completely secure, so we can't guarantee the security of information you send to us online.
12. Cookies
Cookies are small files that websites store on your device. Our website does not use any cookies or similar technologies (such as local storage or tracking pixels), and we don't use analytics, advertising or social media tracking tools.
Our fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. This doesn't set cookies, but your browser does share your IP address with Google so the fonts can be delivered. If you follow our links to Facebook or WhatsApp, those services may set their own cookies under their own policies.
You can view, delete and block cookies at any time using your browser settings. Your browser's help pages explain how.
13. Links to other websites
Our website links to other sites, such as our Facebook page and WhatsApp. We're not responsible for how those sites handle your information, so please read their privacy policies.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top.
